FAQ
What hardware do I need?+
A TV with HDMI input, a laptop or PC with Chrome plugged into it, and a USB webcam on that computer pointed at the dance floor. Any laptop or PC from the last 5 years is fast enough. If one is too slow, the TV shows a SLOW DEVICE banner, and scores stay fair either way. About $60 of hardware if you don't already have a webcam. We support 4K input.
Can it run on a smart TV by itself?+
Not yet. The TV display runs in Chrome on a laptop, desktop or mini PC plugged into the TV over HDMI, with the webcam connected to that computer. Smart TV browsers generally can't use a USB webcam, and their chips are too slow for the on-device tracking. If a computer is too slow, the TV shows a "slow device" warning so you can swap it before class.
How long does setup take?+
About 5 minutes. We'll personally walk through it with the first 10 founding studios on a Zoom call — wherever you are.
What about student privacy?+
Motion sensing runs on the studio TV — the camera feed is never streamed or recorded. We keep up to five small photos from the class's peak moments for the summary and hype reel, auto-deleted after 30 days, and we never run face recognition. Stats are stored on privacy-regulated Canadian hosting (PIPEDA-aligned). Full policy on the privacy page.
Does it work with multiple students at once?+
Yes — up to 6 dancers tracked simultaneously, each with their own live pulse on the leaderboard (anonymous track numbers, not names). Saved stats are for the class as a whole: we don't identify dancers or follow anyone from class to class. That's deliberate — it's our privacy promise to your members.
My class has 15–30 people. What happens?+
The TV follows up to 6 dancers at once, usually the front rows. In a bigger class the energy and calories still reflect the room, read from the dancers it can see. The live leaderboard shows the top 5.
How do pulse and calories work without a heart-rate strap?+
Pulse is how hard the room is moving, read by the camera, not a heart rate. Calories are an estimate for the class, built for motivation, not medical tracking.
What do members see? Do they get personal stats?+
Members can scan the QR code on the TV to follow the class on their phone. There are no personal profiles or stats.
What if my internet drops mid-class?+
The TV display keeps running entirely on the device. Stats sync to your dashboard once the connection is back.
How much internet does a class need?+
Very little. The video stays on the laptop; the TV sends small stat updates and a few small photos. Ordinary studio Wi-Fi is plenty.
What currency are prices in? Is tax included?+
Prices are in US dollars, before any sales tax that applies. Several rooms in one studio are each a location: $149/mo per location, on one bill.
Can I use it in kids' classes?+
DanceFitness is built for adult classes for now. If you do run a kids' class, switch highlight photos off in Settings and get parents' consent first, as our privacy policy explains.
How do I get help, and how fast?+
Email the founder and you'll get a reply within 1 business day. Pilot studios also get hands-on onboarding over Zoom.
Is it available in French?+
English only for now.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Monthly plans cancel any time, no contracts. Annual plans get a prorated refund within the first 30 days.
What's in the free trial, and what happens after 30 days?+
Everything, for 30 days. After that you get 7 more days to subscribe; then the TV stops starting new classes until you do. Your class history stays.
What happens to my data if I cancel or delete the studio?+
Cancel and your history stays. Delete the studio from Settings and everything is removed; download your classes as CSV first.
How many instructor accounts can I have?+
Invite as many instructors as you like. They can run classes and see results, but can't change billing.
Can I customise it with my studio's branding?+
Yes. Studio name and logo appear on the TV, and tone/colour tweaks are supported on every plan.
Do my dancers need to do anything? Download an app?+
No app, no wearable, no setup for dancers. They just walk into class and dance — the system tracks everyone automatically using the studio webcam. That's the whole idea.
What kind of webcam do I need?+
Any USB webcam works. A basic 1080p model like the Logitech C920 (~$70 USD) covers a full studio floor from a corner or wall mount. If you already have a laptop with a built-in webcam, that works for a first test too. Put it in front of the class at chest-to-head height, so dancers fill about a third of the picture, in bright, even light. Party lights and a bright window behind the class make tracking harder.
We run multiple class types — cardio, hip-hop, zumba. Does it work for all of them?+
Yes. The system reads movement energy, not dance style. Cardio, hip-hop, Bollywood, afrobeats, zumba — all tracked the same way. The instructor just clicks Start, and the display adapts to however energetic the room is.
Does it sync to the music beat?+
Not yet. Beat sync is in development; today the TV reads movement.
Does it connect to my booking software (Mindbody, ClassPass, Glofox)?+
Not yet. It runs alongside your booking app. Tell us which one you use and we'll prioritise it.
We own 3+ locations. Is there a cross-location view?+
Yes. Multi-location accounts get a single dashboard that shows every location, with cross-location comparison and per-location filtering. Owners can drill from the org view into any location's history. Multi-location pricing is $149/mo per location — email the founder to get set up.
Can we export raw data to our own BI tool?+
Yes. Every studio gets a 'Sessions CSV' export from the dashboard nav covering all classes, all locations, all time — including the zone-time breakdown and instructor notes. For automated pulls (BI dashboards, franchise reporting), email us — API access is on the roadmap and gets prioritized for multi-location customers.
Can the dashboard be white-labelled / private-branded?+
The studio TV display already shows your studio name + your logo (uploaded in settings) and supports a custom points label (you can rename 'DanceFit Points' to anything). Full white-label removal of the DanceFitness wordmark is available for multi-location plans on request.
